This is a public service announcement from Ms.Bee

Today I joined the Katie Couric Club........

It's true and I'm not afraid to tell you.............my name is Bridget and I had a colonoscopy today.  I know I know, it might be too much infomation for some of you but my hope is, like Katie Couric (who had hers done on TV!) - that those of you that may be overdue for this fun little procedure - will get on the phone and dial up your Dr - Pronto!  Here are a few statistics that might make you ponder this fun test:

Excluding skin cancers, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States. The American Cancer Society's most recent estimates for the number of colorectal cancer cases in the United States are for 2011:
•101,700 new cases of colon cancer

•39,510 new cases of rectal cancer

Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States when men and women are considered separately, and the second leading cause when both sexes are combined. It is expected to cause about 49,380 deaths during 2011.

The test was a piece of cake - I had the Michael Jackson drug of choice - propofol.  Which means - I was out cold!  However, the nice thing about propofol is you wake up very easily from it - I walked out of the hospital 2 hours later!

The preparation - well - it wasn't the most pleasant experience but I feel it could have been worse!  I spent a few hours running to the ladies room last night - but thankfully I followed Dr's orders - ate light on Tuesday and had nothing but jello and chicken broth yesterday.

My Dr told me I made the right choice given my family history and what not - I did have 1 polyp which was removed and will be biopsied - so given the choice that that little polyp could have sat in me and grown into some kind of cancer - I'm really glad I have checked that box off - and you should too!

  2. I'm 54 and haven't had one yet. As Congress would describe me, I'm a burden on tax payers as the final leg of the baby boomer generation. I am a burden to the neo-socialists. I will go as my grandparents went and the animals.

"So live, that when thy summons comes to join
    The innumerable caravan which moves
To that mysterious realm where each shall take
His chamber in the silent halls of death,
Thou go not, like the quarry-slave at night,
Scourged by his dungeon; but, sustain'd and soothed by an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave, like one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him, and lies down to pleasant dreams." William Cullen Bryant

Why would I want to live for the purpose of not living?

Deuteronomy 34:5 "And Moses the servant of the LORD died there in Moab, as the LORD had said. 6 He buried him in Moab, in the valley opposite Beth Peor, but to this day no one knows where his grave is."

  3. Ron - I knew you'd have some sort of words to live by sort of comment!

The Man's Man thought he was immortal too - then he had a massive heart attack at 39 - it changes one's perspective on Dr's and health care - now at 46 - he said "you go first!" - I did - now he has to bite the bullet too! Piece of cake - I did it - you can too!

  4. Good PSA, Bee! I've had three, and it's a piece of cake. Worst part for me is starving myself the day before!

  5. And to each his own day and own when the roll is called up yonder. And most of all, "I AIN'T LETTIN' NOBODY STICK SOMETHING UP MY BUTT!" That is the single reason I never committed a crime. Don't want nobody named Jerome wanting to be my wife.

If God wants me, He knows how to find me.

But if you feel good about it, then alrighty then.

    :) <- times three million.

    Love ya babe!!!!

    (I'm so bad).

  6. Ron Ron Ron - you are killing me buddy! You sound so old fashioned and set in your ways! I had a childhood friend (his Mom drove my bus) who died at age 37 due to Colon Cancer - 37 Ronbo! You guys have it easy - No mammograms, no pap smears, one little colonoscopy and you get all crazy! Just do it! Do it for the Little Woman and do it for me! But mostly do it for yourself - cuz we all know you really want Jerome! :)
